About Scratchleys

In 1989 Scratchleys Restaurant began when the Ferry terminal was moved to Queens Wharf.

Donna & Neil Slater started Scratchleys with a lot of enthusiasm & very little money. We operated as a small BYO until 1999 when the building was transformed into a bonafide restaurant with a wine list boasting 200 wine varieties, floor to ceiling operable doors and many small but practical environmental initiatives

In 2016 we opened Battlesticks Bar to the western end of the building offering a superb cocktail list, amazing views, spectacular architecture, and great tapas style food.

We have endeavoured over our 30-year history to continuously improve the comfort & experience of our extremely loyal guests.

Environment

We have always been looking for ways to shrink our environmental footprint, recycling cardboard crushing, bottle crushing, plastic and meta separation since 1990. Utilising natural light & natural airflow by use of louvres the interior is very airy and takes in the natural beauty of the harbour. We use a Quantum Hot Water service to reduce energy usage.

We introduced 49.6 kW solar & DHS power controls plus many energy-saving appliances.

We regularly take TAFE students and excursions throughout the building to introduce them to our environmental practices and get them involved.

Charities

Hunter Medical Research Institute has been one of our main focuses as a charity partner, always working on the theory of the power of the collective, combining with fellow restaurants – Blue Star, 6 Degrees, The Rydges, The Junction Tavern & Paymasters to raise $1.7 million for vital medical research.

We also ran the Hunter chapter of OzHarvest Food Rescue for 9 years, contributing to 7.6 million meals being delivered to the needy in the Hunter. Saving the environment and providing some social assistance to the disadvantaged in our community.
